...“Allegra Hangen’s work gives voice to these subterranean currents, although you may need to train your ear to their subtleties. Her sonic sculpture at the centre of the exhibition invokes the manhole cover, that ubiquitous gateway to underground utility systems. However, rather than emboss the cover with a municipal coat of arms or a corporate logo, Hangen’s portal is designed to offer a visual notation for the sound of water that emanates from within. Listening to the subtle sounds conjures the aleatoric music of water murmuring in drainage pipes during a walk through one’s neighbourhood. 

Hangen’s portal to the subterranean is surrounded by a series of works on paper that explore the visualization of water recordings. These images transform audio gleaned from a selection of Mexico City's waterways into complex patterns, reflecting both the fluidity and systemic structures of water. Connecting urban water infrastructure to computational processes, the Puntos Flotantes: Resonancias del Agua series explores the sonic frequencies of water made legible.”...
