A Surfacing operates as a conceptual and physical transition between the underground and the urban surface. Through a grooved plaster slab that emulates local concrete and asphalt, the sculpture traces a cartographic approximation of Mexico City’s largest tubed canals, highlighting the impossibility of faithfully mapping its buried rivers.

By using everyday, "humble" construction materials like plaster and classic rooftop red waterproofing sealant, the work connects with the raw materiality of the city and functions as a future archaeology, questioning what infrastructural remnants will remain after the collapse of the modern metropolis.
